Sitting at Miami Fashion Week, I had the pleasure of seeing the debut line of Sabrina Barnett.

Prior to the models walking, the audience sat quietly as a video played, introducing the designer, the line and the mission. It was heart-tugging, inspirational and beautiful...much like the designer I would later meet.

Following the video, Ms. Barnett presented her line. Soft, feminine, casual, comfortable, and more inspirational "love" sayings. The models seemed joyful and proud walking the runway, proclaiming the vision of empowerment to all women!

Sabrina is so much more than a designer. She is a mother, a model, she sings, she is an activist for the causes important in her life, she's writing a book of daily inspirations, and she's a spokesperson. The list seems positively endless!

I sat down with her and her manager, Christopher Chabot of Roc Entertainment to discuss Sabrina's mission behind "empowering women" and ideas for an upcoming show. Within minutes, it was like I had known Sabrina for most of my life and I was ready to jump on board her plight!

I hope you enjoy my interview with Sabrina Barnett as much as I enjoyed doing it!

Sabrina, it's only a natural that you have such a beautiful, exotic look with having an Italian mother and your father being Haitan/Cuban! Where did you grow up and where do you live now?

My mother did all she could to make ends meet, therefore my sister, mother and I moved when ever my mother had a job that could sustain us. We lived in Chicago, Los Angeles, Panama, and Miami. I consider my home Miami Florida.

Your career really began as a young child when you started modeling at 13 years old and it blossomed into a dream career. At what point did you discover that your life had so much purpose beyond just the modeling?
I spent a lot of time traveling as a model all over the world. It gave me much time to read, write and think about what I am here to do and why.

And how did you discover that purpose?
My purpose has truly come to light as I came to understand that a persons real beauty and strength comes from within. I believe that all the years of modeling and being around so much physical beauty has enabled me to realize in time that our society puts much importance towards external looks. There is incredible joy for me when I see compassion between people and kindness. I thank modeling a great deal for that because there is so much judgement and competition that I got sickened early on to that type of energy. I vowed to enrich myself as much as I could in as many ways as I can. All I do whether writing a song, writing on a wall, or now on clothes I choose to express emotions of positivity! We all need Love to live a joyful existence.

You have become such an international talent and ambassador of love, what inspires you as a person?
We all have choices. Thank you. Appreciation is key. I wake up in the morning asking myself what I am thankful for today. There is always something no matter what hardships I have gone through. We can be positive or negative. My life is no dress rehearsal... so I like to breathe goodness. I like to live life passionately and enjoy the moment.

You are a major supporter of the Woman's Cancer Association of the University of Miami Silver Stars and also for the empowerment of women worldwide. Has there been something in your life that has drawn you specifically to these?
Yes, I know many of the women involved with the Woman's Cancer Association and they asked me to write a song for the cause. I did and it has moved us all. This charity gives beautiful people in need dignity during their last moments on our planet. I am also very passionate towards to empowerment of women globally! Unfortunately every minute a women is killed by preventable child birth related causes, babies born as little girls are killed still today, there are so many statistics that I have become so moved by that I made a choice that I know will change my life in very impactful ways... that is to be a voice for women globally. I believe we can all make a difference in our lives. I want to assist all people that need help as much as I can.

How did you decide to start designing?
It has been a natural progression. I have worked with so, so many designers across the globe. I have walked many a runway and been in hundreds of fittings. I have learned hands-on, working with the best over the years. I have chosen to make a little bit of everything. The collection has a nice range. There are edgy t-shirts (Conversation T's), casual flowy dresses, sexy and funky dresses and skirts. We as women have many facets and sometimes we will want to be flexible and wear many different looks. I create clothing for the people of all ages. Women are beautiful no matter how young or old, short or tall. The most important message I am destined to give back thru the SB Collection is that we are all powerful and beautiful and we deserve to be treated with kindness and respect.

Tell us about your clothing line, the Empowering Women Collection.
This collection birthed itself due to my desire to make people feel good. Our world is hurting and we must learn to support one another rather than compete. It is very exciting and fun to create a clothing line that inspires people.

Everything happens for a reason, my life events have brought me down this road. I am so grateful to have the opportunity to share beautiful messages with the world. It moves me to have such a loving response towards my collection of love.

How long did it take you to produce this first line? Will you be producing a Fall line?
This line has been a calling, it birthed itself as did my ablum over night! I give myself little credit for the creation. It truly seems to come through me. Yes, I will always want to give and share beauty with the world as well as bringing awareness to all (men included) for we all have a mother, a sister or a daughter. If we hear our inner voice, hear what is being said, then what kind of person surfaces from those thoughts? If we attract what we think...then please love another as you would want to be loved.

And what can your fans expect next from the clothing line?
Simple, sensual, and wearable... of course always with a positive message!

The styles are so chic and feminine, yet very relaxed. Is this line an example of your personal style?
Absolutely. I do know that we as women are amazing and constantly transforming. Our clothing need reflect our individuality and most importantly out inner courage and beauty!

The inspirational messages on the clothing is fabulous. Were they a result of a group brainstorming or just a regular part of your life?
My hardships and my pain have taught me that no matter what I've gone through or still going through I want to choose the brighter side of thought. There are two sides to every river...

Your debut was on the Catwalk of Miami Fashion Week, then followed up the very next week at Funkshion. How did it feel seeing your line being showcased and the positive response from the audience?

Very emotional to know that I am on track with my life purpose of sharing goodness and positivity with the world. I want all women to know that I come from a third world country, my mother worked 3 jobs as i was growing up. No one wanted to book me as a model for the first year and a half as I went from casting to casting. I was laughed at when I decided to create this motivational line of clothing. I preach women empowerment and truly have lived it with the launch of this line. It is all happening so fast people and press want know where to buy the clothes! I have been invited as a guest to go to Dubai Fashion Week in June. Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in the wings! I am for now funding all of this myself! As a single mother it is truly mind boggling how I have managed to fund this on my own until now. I believe in "build it and they will come." as in the film "Field of Dreams".

Are they available in any stores yet? If so, where?
I have much interest from Boutiques. in Bal Harbour!

Who is your favorite designer, throughout history and why?
Azadine Allaha - I remember doing his shows in Paris. he was always appreciating a woman for more then just her external beauty. He has an innate ability to cut a pant, dress, jacket or skirt to make you feel so good. I just think he is amazing.

Tell us a little about your album, "Come As You Are." I had the opportunity to listen to some of it and it is beautiful, congratulations.
Thank you. Again it birthed itself overnight. I had incredible grammy award winning producers and mixers from L.A to MIA supporting me.Many of the record labels seem to judge artists that are not 16 years of age. I never gave up on my passion and continued writing and producing. It was a blessing for me to host the Star Music Awards back in November 2008, which was the inaugural independent music awards in Los Angeles. There are so many talented people out there.

Any other ventures on the horizon that you would like to tell us about?
Yes, I just received a call to design a swim-wear collection for June! That will be easy for I spent most my modeling career on a beach somewhere modeling suits. And I am also writing my first book of "Life Altering Positive Affirmations" which will come out later this year.
