The Guys Who Set Paris On Fire

The song of Fall ‘12 Paris fashion week? No question—Zebra Katz’s (pictured, left) vogue culture-referencing “Ima Read.” Credit for that goes to Rick Owens (pictured, right), who blasted the song as the soundtrack to his fire-and-brimstone (literally!) Fall womenswear show. (”It’s a Rick Owens show, it’s not Disney World,” the designer shrugs.) Dazed & Confused brought the two provocateurs together for a video interview and a little photo shoot. Clothes, naturally, are by Rick Owens. The hat is Katz’s—but if Rick started making them, we’d have no objections.

Mrs. Marley, We Presume? And More Of The Day’s Top Stories

It’s wedding bells for Brazilian supe Isabeli Fontana. The model is engaged to Rohan Marley, one of late reggae legend Bob Marley’s 11 kids. Fontana and her fiancé don’t have a date yet, but they are reportedly planning to tie the knot in the birthplace of the Rastafarian movement: Ethiopia. [

Swarovski Collective, Now Collecting Applications

The application process has commenced for the Swarovski Collective corps of S/S 2013, and designers who show at the quartet of major fashion weeks globally are welcome to toss their hats into the ring. Stalwarts and fresh young talents alike who have shown at New York, Paris, Milan, and London fashion weeks can be contenders for the program, now in its thirteenth year, by submitting their schemes for incorporating Swarovski's trademark sparklers into their designs. The next set of winners will turn out their crystal-dappled creations in September during their respective fashion weeks.

In Paris, Hermès Puts Its Best Foot Forward

Not only did the sun finally make an appearance, Paris got a shot of orange yesterday morning—Hermès orange, to be precise. On Monday, the French house unveiled its summer pop-up store (8 rue des Sèvres, Paris), where the story is all about women’s shoes. The full range of summer footwear by Pierre Hardy, including Oran sandals in hot pink, navy, and orange neoprene (all exclusive to this location, €390), flank one side of the space, and a preview of the Fall shoes and boots (déjà!) lines the opposite.

Prepare for Carine Roitfeld, the documentary

Surfer, Skater, Chola, Star

For many in fashion, L.A. is a full coast away from where the real action is. “Style in L.A. is sort of an oxymoron,” admits former L.A. Times writer and journalist Melissa Magsaysay. “It’s jeans and it’s T-shirts. But what’s wrong with that?” In hopes of changing the conversation surrounding style in the City of Angels, Magsaysay penned City of Style: Exploring Los Angeles Fashion, from Bohemian to Rock.

James Franco: Rebel’s Rebel

At The Met: Cape Town

We’ve already noted the influence Angelina Jolie had on this year’s Met ball red carpet. No less influential: Gwyneth Paltrow. Paltrow’s cape-and-gown Tom Ford look was Oscar night’s best, and it’s proven to have legs at the Met, too. Gwyneth’s stylist, Elizabeth Saltzman Walker, told me at an event in Paris that she was inspired by Jackie Kennedy’s timeless chic when working on Gwyneth’s Academy Awards look. Last night, some of those donning capes, like Maria Grazia Chiuri, in Valentino, went for classic, too. But there were just as many others who chased glitz and glam.

Schiap Is Back

Ever since Diego Della Valle bought the name and the archive of Elsa Schiaparelli’s legendary house, he’s kept his plans for its future mum. But the opening of the Schiaparelli/Prada show at the Met and tonight’s Costume Institute Gala made the timing perfect for a big announcement: Schiaparelli is coming back.
